Captain Paul Uhl
Born in Chicago, Captain Paul has been sailing on the Great Lakes for more than 35 years. Born of Norwegian, German, English, and Scottish descent, he's lived in Denmark and traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America. Paul loves the outdoors where he pursues his passions for skiing, iceboat sailing, cruising/racing, hiking, and biking.
For more than 35-years, he's owned several sailboats and has cruised and raced extensively on the Great Lakes with more than 20 Chicago-Mac Races and 50,000 sea miles. Paul has extensive experience as a sail and powerboat instructor, a charter boat and delivery captain with coastal and offshore passage making on the Great Lakes, Inland Rivers, Gulf of Mexico and Florida, and trans-Atalntic passage on a wide variety of sailboats and powerboats up to 65ft.
Paul holds a USCG 100gt Master Captains' License with sailing and towing endorsements, is First Aid/CPR certified, and is US Sailing Offshore Safety at Sea certified. He served as the Columbia Yacht Club Cruising Fleet Chair for more than 10 years and the Board of Directors for 5 years.
A calm and patient teacher, Paul has inspired many to become skilled and confident boaters, and others to set off on their own adventures and extended passages.
