"Because in the end, you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddam mountain."
— JACK KEROUAC
Designed to give everyone multiple opportunities to work in every aspect of operating a 48ft offshore passage making sailboat. These are not fair weather sailing classes and as crew you should be prepared to experience a wide variety of weather conditions and situations. Everyone is required to work together and potentially work on deck in challenging conditions.
Our introductory Passage-Making classes are specifically designed to build confidence in coastal cruisers who want to sail greater distances. Acting as skipper and crew you will participate in every aspect of operating an offshore yacht—trip planning, weather routing, safety, steering, crew management, charting, navigation, sail trim, reefing, meal planning and preparation, systems and electronics operation, communications, etc.
Our unique weeklong "expeditions" are for coastal cruisers interested in gaining long distance offshore cruising experience. On the Great Lakes, each weeklong class provides a different experience designed to build your skills and confidence to make the transition to passage making. Join us for the week of your choice cruising on Lake Michigan, Lake Huron’s North Channel, or Green Bay!
This year we are offering racing classes for different skill levels and interests! Are you curious to find out what racing is like? Then sign up for our casual Wednesday evening Beer Can Racing Sessions. Looking for something more—join us for our one day or weekend distance races. Or if you're looking for a true, offshore, multi-day racing experience—apply for a spot as crew on the Chicago-Mackinac Island Race! Space is limited.
Our women-only classes recognize that women learn in very different ways than men do. Our classes are structured around how women listen, learn, and execute, and look at the differences between how men and women communicate and express themselves. Our goal is to build your skills and self-confidence as sailors, as well as build a better understanding of how you communicate and work together with your sailing partner.
Our night sailing classes are the perfect opportunity to experience sailing at night and get an overnight passage under your belt. Are you a cruiser who wants to expand the range of your cruising beyond the reach of daylight, or a racer interested in long-distance or multiday races? Night sailing is an amazing experience and much easier than you think! We typically depart on a Friday or Saturday evening and return mid-morning the next day.
